Video: Arnos Vale bid for fundraising support
Heritage Lottery Fund’s support package for Arnos Vale Cemetery finishes at the end of June and the charity is calling for last minute support.
Until the end of the month every pound donated will be doubled by the lottery.
Mike Coe, from Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust, said: “This really is the last chance for us to make use of the matched funding pledge from the Heritage Lottery Fund and there is still £250,000 to claim. If we don’t reach our target this money will be lost to Bristol forever.”
is needed now More than ever
Since opening six years ago the charity has received no funding from the council and depends on fundraising and donations.
After years of fundraising the neglected cemetery, which was once earmarked for a housing development, was re-opened to the public.
“Arnos Vale is a community project and aims to both remember and celebrate life,” said Mike.
“With so many businesses, families, community groups, schools and performing arts organisations visiting the site, we touch the lives of around 35,000 people each year. Arnos Vale really is something unique among cemeteries both in the UK and internationally.”
