Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2018, day 6: FareShare

By Ffion Clarke  Wednesday Dec 5, 2018

FareShare South West is a charity which redistributes food which would otherwise be thrown to away over 170 organisations.

During 2018 they have redistributed 400 tonnes of food to charities and organisations including school breakfast clubs around the city and the Wild Goose drop-in centre in Easton.

One in five of the organisations they supported this year said that without FareShare they would not be able to function at all.

In 2018, FareShare South West have focused on tackling child food poverty in Bristol, where an estimated one in four children are at risk of experiencing hunger.

The charity now provides food support to primary school Breakfast Clubs, holiday projects and children’s centres in the most deprived areas of the city, providing food to over 3,000 children and their families.

Their Big Breakfast Appeal, raising money to support their work tackling child hunger, is still open at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/bigbreakfast.
