Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2020, day 5: Bristol Sands

By Bristol24/7  Friday Dec 4, 2020

Bristol Sands is part of Sands, the Stillbirth & Neonatal Death Society. Its volunteers are bereaved parents who give their time to support other parents and their families, who have suffered the death of a baby before, during or after birth.

Support is free of charge and open to all bereaved parents whatever the circumstances of their baby’s death.

Parents’ experiences are unique but the death of a much-loved baby can bring an overwhelming grief that is deeper and lasts much longer than other people realise. Many parents say that they never knew it was possible to feel such sadness, and that their lives are shattered.

In normal circumstances, Bristol Sands holds monthly support meetings at Bedminster Library, which is an opportunity to talk about the loss of a baby or babies and to seek support from the charity’s befrienders as well as other parents on a similar journey.

Pregnant Again Support also takes place monthly to talk about any concerns or worries parents may have, with alternate months being midwife-led.

These meetings are currently still taking place over Zoom.

Bristol Sands United FC is a football team for men who been affected by the loss of a baby before, during or shortly after birth, who have played several matches since being founded.
