Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2021, day 20: Bristol Charities
Day 20 of our charity advent calendar showcases the transformative work of one of Bristol’s oldest charities.
Bristol Charities‘ mission is to provide opportunities and support for people and communities through grants, housing and charitable projects.
They run a range of supported housing for older people, the modern equivalent of almshouses, to help people to live independently in their chosen communities.
is needed now More than ever
Their modern, purpose-built accommodation for older people in Brentry, Henbury and Stockwood provides a safe environment tailored to meet individual needs.

These homes across Bristol support residents to achieve their full potential whilst enjoying privacy, comfort and companionship.
Bristol Charities’ work have helped transform and enhance the lives of those in need in Bristol for over six hundred years.
Recipients include vulnerable and elderly people and those experiencing hardship, carers, plus charities, groups and projects which seek to improve the quality of life for communities in Bristol.
The organisation recently shared early ideas to transform the Vassall Centre in Fishponds into a vibrant new neighbourhood centre for multigenerational living and working.
On the new proposals, Anne Anketell, chief executive officer at Bristol Charities said: “We are hoping to deliver much-needed new housing for older people and families and build a really connected and supported community for everyone living and working here.”
After recently consulting local neighbours and residents, updated proposals will be published for discussion and comment ahead of a planning application next year.
