Bristol Charity Advent Calendar – day five
Emmaus is a Bristol charity that helps to get homeless people off the streets by offering work and a permanent place to live.
Turning charity on its head, Emmaus not only gives homeless people the opportunity to help themselves, but also to help others.
The charity operates a residential community of 23 former homeless men and women, who Emmaus calls their ‘companions’, and a recycling/ reuse business.
is needed now More than ever
Companions work for 40 hours a week in the social enterprise and are also encouraged to help others in the local community.
