#BristolCharityAdvent day 17: Trauma Recovery Centre

By Emily Spivey  Saturday Dec 16, 2017

Trauma Recovery Centre (TRC) undertakes a number of different projects with one sole purpose – to bring positive, hopeful and strategic intervention to families in Bristol who have experienced trauma.

Fun and games at the TRC therapy centre

The TRC Therapy Centre provides support in the form of therapy and offers children, young people and their parents or carers a safe space in which they can start to process their experiences.

The aim of therapy is to reduce trauma symptoms in everyday lives so those affected can focus on recovery. TRC wants children and young people to be able to enjoy their lives, rather than expending energy on survival methods to tackle trauma alone.

A soft play area for kids to escape to

There for children and young people struggling with mainstream school, The Oakside Creative Education Centre is another space for recovery. The charity wants to instil belief back into these children, with an ethos geared towards recovery instead of management.

Underpinning every project is the TRC Training Centre, providing excellent training from key experts in trauma therapy across the UK to every team member or professional involved with the charity. This way, TRC can ensure that each child or young person receives the best quality of care possible.

Painting is a way for young people to express how they are feeling

As with any charity, TRC wouldn’t be able to reach these children without the generous support of its donors, grant makers and fundraisers.

With a whole host of support avenues, it’s easy to champion this life-changing cause, and by becoming a restorer, you can join a group of regular monthly givers who are committed to helping those in need through long-term intervention.

Recovery doesn’t happen over night. By donating on a consistent basis, you could truly make a difference to not only a child, but a whole family affected by trauma.

To become a restorer, organise a fundraising event, or to find out more, visit www.trc-uk.orgDonate online via www.mydonate.bt.com/charities/traumarecoverycentre. Or, you can give a one-off donation via text message by texting ‘TTRC11’ followed by the amount you’d like to donate to 70070.
