#BristolCharityAdvent Day 2: Flamingo Chicks
Flamingo Chicks gives children with disabilities and illnesses such as cancer the opportunity to enjoy ballet alongside their friends.
There are all kinds of children in a Flamingo Chicks class including those undergoing treatment for cancer, children who are visually impaired, those with autism, cerebral palsy, Downs Syndrome or other needs.
Flamingo Chicks actively celebrates what children can do, and while the children explore movement their parents and carers benefit from a vital support network.
is needed now More than ever
Our vision is a world where disabled people have the same range of opportunities, and a culture of integrated social and well-being activity, where everyone works together as equals.
Kristy Hooper, mum to Lily-Grace who is severely sight impaired, said: “When we received her diagnosis, I couldn’t imagine her having the same opportunities most little girls have.
“From the age of four she asked repeatedly if she could go to dance classes. I didn’t think this to be possible for her until we found Flamingo Chicks.
“Now, her little face lights up and breaks into a huge smile at the very mention of it! After her last few sessions she has asked how many sleeps until she can go again!
“I cannot rave enough about how she has grown in confidence since her first class. Everyone has noticed and commented. It’s just wonderful.”
Regular Flamingo Chicks take place across Bristol, with a six-week Alice In Wonderland course starting in Henleaze in January.
