Can you help a child learn to read?

By Bristol24/7  Friday Feb 7, 2020

Reading is an essential life skill and not being able to read well by the age of 11 can make life a lot harder in the future.

A group of organisations, dedicated to helping the children of Bristol learn to read, has been challenged by the Mayor of Bristol to provide a reading volunteer for every child that needs one.

Can Do Bristol have been working with schools over the last few years to recruit over 300 new reading volunteers. Would you like to become a reading volunteer? Now is your chance to share your love of reading and do something really significant for your community. You’ll learn loads and – if you need it – it could be a great addition to your CV.

Free training and a DBS check are offered for all volunteers. The next training sessions are on 10th February and 9th March.

All Reading in Schools volunteers report how rewarding the programme is. Rose from Southmead said: “volunteering makes you feel better and plays a big role in the community”.

Come and be part of giving children and young people a good start in life by mastering their reading skills.
