Digital dating addiction is sweeping across the South West
Ever find you’ve just wasted an evening in front of the TV mindlessly scrolling through a dating app? Or do you know someone who deserves the title of Queen/King of Swiping?
Well you aren’t alone! The latest research from slow dating app, Once, has revealed some shocking trends regarding how people in Bristol and across the SW region, are becoming increasingly addicted to swipe dating apps!
is needed now More than ever
The study looks at our dating habits, including where and when we swipe, and found that:
- 15% of people in the South West use dating apps on the toilet!
- Over a third of the region’s daters swipe in bed
- 2% South West singles admit to swiping at a wedding
- 1-in-5 of swipe during a lunch break
- 1-in-10 admit to swiping in the bath
Once is a slow dating app that focuses on quality over quantity and provides just one match per day.
Looking at the nation as a whole, British men and women equally find dating apps to be addictive (22% m and 21% f). Men are becoming increasingly habitual in their usage of dating apps, especially during everyday life and career scenarios, more than British women are. For example; men are three times more likely to use a dating app during a work meeting, twice as likely to swipe at a wedding and nearly four times more likely to do so at the gym!
Jean Meyer, CEO at Once says: “This highly-invasive swiping culture makes us extremely picky and impossibly hard to impress. We’re spending too much time on dating apps. The act of swiping and scrolling is fast and this does not provide for considered decisions. This super-charged approach to modern dating is great for quick hook-ups – but is not geared towards finding love. Brits need to rethink their approach to dating – it shouldn’t become this time consuming.”
