Inside the Redcliffe caves
A new micro-documentary filmed on Bristol Doors Open Day last weekend ventures into the serpentine tunnels below Bristol, otherwise known as the Redcliffe caves.
Actually man-made mines, the caves have had many uses over the years, including storage, a prison for foreign soldiers and a source of the sandstone used to make glass.
Open to visitors since the first Doors Open Day in 1995, the caverns still prove to be a huge attraction for tourists and Bristolians alike. If you didn’t get the chance to go down below, take a virtual tour in this video by Elliot Mayhew:
