Lost photos of bygone Bedminster rediscovered

By Lois Ilse Mae  Friday Feb 9, 2018

They were found surrounded by snow globes in the abandoned basement of the former bingo hall on North Street.

The never-before-seen photos showing a bygone Bedminster from the 1970s are now on display for the first time at Photographique, which has recently moved to North Street from the city centre.

A fanfare outside the old bingo hall

Photographique manager Hamish Trevis found the images while a friend from university was squatting in the old bingo hall.

During a party the pair decided to explore the building and found the photos in the basement.

“I’ve had this album for eight years or so, and I’ve just always wanted to do something with it, to display it in some way,” Hamish told Bristol24/7.

“It’s great to finally be able to show them to the public, and what better place to do it but a few doors down from the original site, which no longer exists.”

Ain’t no party like a bingo hall party

The album contains photographs from the buzzing scenes of celebrations in the bingo hall in the 70s and 80s.

A select few have been framed by the team and hung on the walls in their new shop next to the Hare pub, with the original photo album on display for people to flick through.

The photographs will be on display in Photographique until at least the beginning of March. A new exhibition will open in April to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the shop.
