‘Changed in all but appearance’: Meet Voi’s latest e-scooter

By Mia Vines Booth  Monday Jun 6, 2022

There’s better safety, improved shock absorption and more recycled parts, but don’t expect it to go faster.

The Voiager 5 (V5) is the latest addition to Voi’s fleet of e-scooters, and is already being introduced to the streets of Bristol.

The newest model has a new phone holder feature and larger wheels, but apart from these small details, the new scooter seems to have changed in all but appearance.

Bristol and Bath follow in the footsteps of Liverpool as the first UK cities to introduce the latest version of the Voi e-scooter.

Some of the V5’s main features include new ‘magic wheels’ with increased tyre tread depth for improved safety and greater shock absorption for smooth rides – a detail sure to be welcomed by riders who bemoan Bristol’s notoriously uneven streets.

The new model also includes safer brakes, an updated dashboard design, integrated phone holder and automated turn indicator switch.

As part of the company’s ‘circular vehicle’ programme, Swedish company Voi claims that the V5 model is its most sustainable e-scooter yet.

With a longer lifespan of five years, the scooter has an increased modularity for ease of repairs and an increased proportion of recycled materials – the V5 is currently made up of over 30 per cent recycled materials, more than double the previous rate.

Voi says it worked with groups such as Open Inclusion and Women in Transport to make the V5 more inclusive, and is currently working with Lazarillo, an app that improves accessibility for blind and visually-impaired people.

The company announced plans to expand into north west Bristol at the end of May, and have also promised to extend their reach into more south Bristol neighbourhoods.
