Video: Grillstock chilli eating contest 2016

The chilli eating contest is always a macabre highlight of the Grillstock Festival.

Here’s how this year’s event unfolded, starting with the Dutch long chilli with a Scoville heat scale (SHU) of 500 and ending with the world’s hottest, the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper with an SHU of more than 1.4 million.

Organisers Clifton Chilli Club say: “This is a slightly longer edit than we usually produce but we wanted for you to witness and experience some more of what takes place at this epic competition.

“We’ve left in the contestants’ dilemmas, battles with the burn/pain, showmanship, showboating and more.”
