Bristol 2015: Green Poems for a Blue Planet

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Jun 9, 2015

“Poetry has power,” says Martin Kiszko – the UK’s Green Poet and Poet in Residence for Bristol 2015.

His one-man, stand-up performances are based on his books ‘Green Poems for a Blue Planet’ and ‘Verse for the Earth’ which are illustrated by Nick Park, creator of ‘Wallace and Gromit’.

Martin’s eco-comical poetry for children and families aims to help a new generation understand and grasp the challenges ahead and encourage their search for solutions that can create a sustainable environment for all. His poetry ranges from ‘disappearing tigers’ to ‘lost whales’ and from stranded polar bears to poo power.

“Any message, idea or even a scientific subject – such as my Poo Power poem– can be communicated in an accessible and entertaining way. It’s like sending a text or a postcard from your vacation. Better still, the listener usually remembers the short message or story they’ve read or heard,” says Martin.

An exhibition of Martin’s work runs from Monday 15th June to Sunday 28th June 2015 at St George’s.
