Bristol to March for Science

By Maria Aguado  Tuesday Apr 18, 2017

To celebrate Earth Day (April 22, 2017) Bristol will host a March for Science. Organisers are inviting people from all walks of life to join and show their support for science and the benefits it brings to all our lives.

Starting at 11am in Millennium Square, there will be a pre-march rally with speakers including TV naturalist Chris Packham, science writer Dr Simon Singh, At-Bristol’s creative director Anna Starkey, and scientist and journalist Dr Suzi Gage.

There will also be family-friendly entertainment, science-themed stalls, and prizes for best banners. Following the rally, the two-mile march will loop through the city, ending back at Millennium Square.

The march has been organised in collaboration with At-Bristol Science Centre, and is one of many that will take place on the same day in cities around the world.

The goal of these marches is to inspire ordinary people to celebrate the knowledge science gives us and to encourage further research. They are part of the Earth Day Network’s new campaign for global environmental and climate literacy.

Bristol’s scientific community have thrown their support behind the march, with endorsements from organisations such as the University of Bristol, Bristol and Bath Science Association, Women’s Tech Hub Bristol, Mad Science Bristol, and The Bristol Astronomical Society.
