12,000 Easter eggs donated for staff and patients at Southmead Hospital

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Apr 9, 2020

Staff at Southmead Hospital, Cossham Hospital and community health teams across North Bristol NHS Trust will receive an Easter egg thanks to donations from businesses to say thank you for their incredible work in the fight against coronavirus.

Southmead Hospital Charity has received 12,000 chocolate eggs to give to staff and patients who are currently in hospital.

Half of the eggs have been donated by Mars Wrigley through their employee reward scheme, and the other 6,000 have been received from the National Trust who were no longer able to use them for their usual Easter egg hunts at Tyntesfield.

Marks & Spencer have also delivered an additional 200 eggs, and Thorntons have also donated thousands of boxes of chocolates.

Sarah Harrison, director of Southmead Hospital Charity, said: “An Easter egg is a small but very meaningful gesture of thanks to all the staff at North Bristol NHS Trust for their hard work in facing the coronavirus pandemic.

“Staff tells us how thankful they are for these treats which they really appreciate as a symbol of support from the public, the community and businesses.

“We have been overwhelmed by the continued support for our Coronavirus (COVID-19) Appeal and are extremely grateful for the partnerships we have built with local and national businesses to support our local NHS.”
