15-peak hike to raise money for refugees
Two Bristol men are taking on a gruelling 24-mile hike across the welsh mountains to raise money for Oxfam’s Syria Crisis Appeal in October.
“Deeply upset” by daily reports of the refugees’ struggle, David Tidman and Darragh Mason Field have challenged themselves to a difficult journey of their own, attempting to scale 15 peaks in 48 hours as part of the Welsh 3000s challenge.
On October 3 the pair will make the journey to their starting point at the base of Snowdon, hoping to conquer the final peak in the Carneddau the following day. The taxing journey will consist of a total ascent of more than 9,787 feet, including a stretch over the notoriously dangerous Crib Goch.
is needed now More than ever
“Although it is an extreme and punishing journey, it’s nothing compared to the journey hundreds of thousands of refugees are making every day to escape conflict,” the hikers have said on their Just Giving page.
“This crisis will not disappear and it is already the tragedy of the decade. We’ve seen the images of children washed up on beaches, and hundreds of families dying while attempting to flee war torn countries. These are desperate people who need our help.”
