The incredible depth and breadth of young talent in the West of England is showcased in Rife Magazine’s annual 30 Under 30.
Toasting the success of 30 people aged under 30, Rife’s 2022 compilation sees individuals honoured from many walks of life and presents a cross-section of Bristol.
From media and culture to business and engineering, the group is teeming with talent and gives everyone reason to be proud of our city and hopeful for its future.
The magazine reached out for nominations in October 2021 after deciding to include a greater range of people and extend the geographical area they represent, settling on a list of 30 extraordinary talents for this year’s feature.
Whilst some are working to increase awareness and diversity in sciences, others are advocating for accessibility and better wellbeing in the arts.
One of those who appear in the rankings is Pheebs Jameson, an activist, musician and creator who uses her online platform to explore experiences of trauma, queer identity, abuse, diet culture and mental illness.
Chemical engineer and activist Olivia Sweeney is also featured. Olivia works with the Royal Academy of Engineering to increase awareness and diversity in STEM and engineering. Speaking about link between climate justice and racial equality, she attended Glasgow’s COP26 in November as a Black & Green ambassador.

Shaheim Minzie, a student currently studying for his A-Level, works with Integrate UK as a junior trustee and junior outreach worker and is a candidate for Bristol City Youth Council. Through his journalistic, political and directorial work, Shaheim aims to “magnify the realities of minorities that are glossed over or are deemed too ‘uncomfortable’ to speak about”.

Rife, “a platform for the opinions of Bristol’s young people”, is the Watershed’s youth engagement platform. The publication has produced a list celebrating the achievements of young people in Bristol and the South West since 2014.
“This year, we’ve chosen 30 talented individuals under the age of 30 from across the West of England, with the aim of showcasing their amazing work and giving them the recognition they deserve”, wrote the Rife team.
“This process has felt particularly important during such a challenging time for so many. Thank you so much to every person who nominated their friends, colleagues, family and partners – each nomination was a beam of hope through 2021’s fog of doubt and disappointment.”
