£45,000 for sustainability projects in Bristol

By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Apr 11, 2017

Ideas that would help boost sustainability and tackle environmental challenges in Bristol could become a reality with the launch of a £45,000 crowdfunding campaign.

Bristol Green Capital Partnership (BGCP) is set to invest the five-figure sum in projects and initiatives that will improve the city’s eco-credentials and create a high quality of life for all.

Grants of between £3,000 and £4,000 will be up for grabs, but in order to bring ideas to fruition, grassroots groups, social enterprises and small businesses have to win the community’s backing by crowdfunding the first 50 per cent of their total target.

BGCP says the idea is to harness the huge amount of energy and enthusiasm across the city and help support those with the vision to make Bristol a sustainable and enjoyable place to live.

The call for entries to take part in the Better Bristol match-fund campaign opens on Tuesday, April 11, and applicants must submit ideas in writing by April 25.

BGCP chief executive Ian Townsend said: “This initiative seeks to help more organisations to achieve positive change in their communities, as well as addressing city challenges.”

Projects could include anything from food-growing, community energy or cleaner streets, to sustainable transport, community resilience, wildlife and green spaces.

Organisers say the match-fund aims to support innovation in the city, so all ideas are welcome.

Eligible projects will then receive training from the Crowdfunder coaching academy and go forward to the next stage.

The crowdfunding projects will launch on June 1, and those that reach 50 per cent of their target first and gain a minimum of 40 backers, will receive the BGCP match-funding.
