£75m superyacht arrives into Bristol
A superyacht owned by an American maths professor turned hedge fund billionaire sailed serenely into the Floating Harbour on Sunday afternoon.
Archimedes is expected to stay in Bristol for a few days and is the largest superyacht seen in the docks for several years.
“Why are you in Bristol?” a passer-by asked a member of the crew on Sunday.

“Well, you gotta be somewhere,” was the succinct answer.
Built in 2008, the superyacht is 68 metres long, has a cruising speed of 12 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles. Twelve guests can be accommodated in six cabins; looked after by a crew of 18.
The yacht is owned by James Simons, the founder of Renaissance Technologies, a quantitative hedge fund firm that manages $50b. Simons founded Renaissance in 1982 after a career in academia.
Simons is one of the USA’s most generous philanthropists and has given away more than $2b of his fortune to charity.
