Alleged rioters appear in front of judge for first time
Eight people accused of taking part in the riot following a ‘kill the bill’ protest have appeared in court.
It was the first time that the alleged rioters have appeared in front of a judge, with judge Lynne Matthews sending them all to appear at Bristol Crown Court on June 22.
“The city centre was terrorised” on the evening of March 21 in the words of judge Matthews at Bristol Magistrates’ Court.

Those appearing on Friday were:
- Jasmine York, 26, of Paintworks on Bath Road. Charged with riot and arson with intent to endanger life
- Yasmin Schneider, 25, of Lamb Street, St Paul’s. Charged with two cases of outraging public decency, namely urinating in the street.
- Mariella Gedge-Rogers, 26, of Queen’s Road, Clifton. Charged with riot.
- Kane Adamson, 21, of Romney Avenue, Lockleaze. Charged with riot.
- Brandon Lloyd, 21, of Greenlands Way, Henbury. Charged with riot. Also fined £269 for possession of 90g of cannabis.
- Stuart Quinn, 46, of Thomas Street, St Paul’s. Charged with riot.
- Dylan Dunne, 22, of Henfield Road, Coalpit Heath. Charged with violent disorder, the theft of police equipment and possession of cannabis.
- Kain Simmonds, 18, of Stratford Road, Birmingham. Charged with riot.
All eight defendants were granted bail on the condition that they do not enter Cornwall between June 4 and 14. This is due to the G7 summit taking place.
A ninth person, Benjamin Rankin, 40, of Novers Hill in Bedminster – charged with riot and arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered – did not appear in court; with a warrant now issued for his arrest.
