An alternative view of the Bearpit

The former vice chair of the Bearpit Improvement Group has challenged claims that the area is “a toxic place”.

Richard Jones said that some of the most serious accusations were “not a place that I recognise”.

Writing in Bristol24/7, Miriam Delogu, who until recently ran Bearpit Social, called the Bearpit an area “where crime, violence and antisocial behaviour thrived”.

Jones said: “Miriam is perfectly entitled to her view of the Bearpit, but it’s not a place that I recognise. We ran a weekly market in the Bearpit for five months and didn’t experience any of the anti-social behaviour, crime and violence to which Miriam has been subjected.

“There is a debate to be had about the Bearpit and in the interests of balance, I would urge people to view Katy Bauer’s short film shot in the Bearpit which gives an alternative view of the space.”
