Anger as estate agent promotes rent increases
More than 8,000 people have signed a petition asking a Southville estate agent not to exploit Bristol’s housing crisis.
It comes after the publication of a letter from CJ Hole on North Street to its landlord clients asking “Are you getting enough rent?” and “How do you get more rent?”

The letter they are sending to landlords explains that “with rents increasing every week in Bristol, it is highly likely your property is due a rent increase.”
It goes on to say that “the demand from tenants is far exceeding the number of available properties and we have never seen such a buoyant rental market.”
Petition organisers are asking people to sign this petition if they want CJ Hole to stop sending these letters to its landlord clients and if you want their next MP to support rent controls, giving more rights to tenants and building more affordable homes.
Even a manager at CJ Hole has signed the petition.
Chris Hill, who runs five CJ Hole offices but not the Southville branch, tweeted: “I agree and hav signed, my offices believe in good service as reason 2 use us shame Southville hav chosen this route”
In subsequent tweets, he added: “no office under my control sends these nor will ever… I’m grateful and in full agreement with the petition… not able / in control of the whole of cjhole Bristol but will do best to bring others around to better way”
