Anti-Trump peace vigil to be held in Bristol
A candle-lit vigil will be held on College Green on Wednesday evening for all those concerned about Donald Trumps’s election as US president.
Organiser Sara Finning, an American national living in Easton, said she wanted to “make a stand” against the Republican president-elect and his “racist and misogynistic” views by promoting peace.
It comes as the Tobacco Factory in North Street is flying an American flag at half mast in the wake of the election results.
is needed now More than ever
In a call for people to join the vigil, Finning said: “The community here feels that there are Americans who don’t support Trump and we at least need to make a stand against what he is promoting.”
Finning, a former photographer in her 40s, said she woke up deeply saddened – “upset, crying and in despair” – as the results rolled in.
She added: “It’s not the America I know and love. I’m American and I have lived in Bristol and I’m living in a very multicultural area and I’m really, really upset about the results which promotes hate and a contemptuous view of the world.”
The mum of three said she felt upset for her children growing up in a world where the US had a “racist and misogynistic” president.
She added: “The whole point in this vigil is just to register concern about Donald Trump being president.”
The vigil will be held from 6pm on College Green.
