Appeal to build school in one of Bristol’s twinned towns

By Jess Connett  Monday Apr 24, 2017

Bristol charity Friends of Morazan are appealing for funds to build a Montessori preschool classroom in the municipality of Puerto Morazán, Nicaragua, to offer young people in the region the chance to access vital early-years education.

The area – the poorest in the central American country – has been twinned with Bristol for many years. Since 2001, Friends of Morazan have been working with the Clifton Children’s House to build schools in remote communities.

The charity is calling upon the generosity of Bristolians to help them reach their £10,000 fundraising target. The money will be put towards the building of the classroom, and will fund vital teaching and educational resources for three years.

“This link with Bristol has been very important to us for many years. Where previously there wasn’t a suitable place for classes, now we have proper classrooms… [which] allow the children [to] learn through living, and what they learn they can share with others in their homes and here at school”, says Marisol, a preschool teacher from Nicaragua who has benefited from previous fundraising efforts.
