Appeal over mosque bacon abuse

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Jan 19, 2016

Police have released images of two people they are looking to speak with in relation to a hate crime where bacon sandwiches were thrown at a mosque and abuse shouted at worshippers.

A man and a woman were caught on CCTV cameras outside Jamia Mosque in Green Street, Totterdown, on Sunday at about 12.50pm.

Police say racial abuse was shouted during prayers. A video published online shows a St George flag with the words “no more mosques” unfurled outside.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday over the attack, which triggered an outpouring of support for the mosque from the local community.

Anyone who can help identify the two people are being asked to call Bristol Investigations via 101 and quote reference number 5216011558.

Alternatively, if you want to give the information anonymously you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.
