Hero helped save woman from gorge by her hair
Police are searching for a man from Totterdown who helped a police officer save a woman from jumping to her death in the Avon Gorge by grabbing hold of her hair.
PC Jeanette Cadden spotted the woman scale the fence near the Sea Walls on Circular Road on Saturday before rushing to the cliff edge and grabbing her hair to prevent her from falling hundreds of feet onto the Portway.
Struggling to keep hold of the woman on her own, she was helped by a passing man who pulled the woman back over the fence.
Police want to trace the man, who gave his name as Paul, to thank him for his help.
PC Cadden said: “I managed to get to the woman just in time and stop her from falling but had the man not come to help me, I physically would not have been able to pull the woman back over the fence to safety and she may have lost her life.
“He told me his name was Paul and he was from the Totterdown area of Bristol and was out on an evening stroll with his partner.
“I would really like to give a proper thanks to someone who acted quickly and without thought to help me and ultimately save this woman’s life.”
The incident happened at 6pm on Saturday, September 19.
Police are asking if you are the person or you know the person then call 101 and ask to speak to PC 4296 Cadden or the local policing team.
