Bristol Arena plans go on tour
New exhibition ‘Architruck’ will be parking up at three locations around Bristol, before moving to M Shed between 3- 11 February.
The exhibition comes from the Royal Institute of British Architects and showcases the five shortlisted designs for the £90 million Bristol Arena, set to open in 2017.
152 people visited the exhibition in Portwall Lane yesterday, and by lunch time today, another 60 people had come to see the truck parked outside Sainsbury’s in Brislington.
Visitors are encouraged to get involved and leave their feedback on the designs, before the final design is chosen in March by a panel including Mayor George Ferguson.
“At the moment, my favourite design is E, the Waterfall,” Sainsbury’s worker, Carlos Barredo tells us. He had been at work when the Architruck parked up outside.
“I didn’t know about this before, so I’m just finding out about the plans now. I think it could give more life to the city.”
Edward Grinham is the general manger of the RSPCA Bristol, which is opposite the proposed building site:
“It’s going to directly affect us, the noise, the animals, so I was interested to come and see the plans.
“It’s a good idea, it’s needed. But at the same time, it’s going to have an effect on the area. I was interested to see car parking, but I can’t see anything there. All the extra traffic, extra noise, will make a difference to us.”
Architruck will be in the carpark of Sainsbury’s Brislington until 6pm today, and in Broadmead tomorrow from 9.30am – 5.30pm.
