Armed police swoop on St Paul’s

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Jul 4, 2017

Armed police swooped on a block of flats in St Paul’s on Tuesday morning but failed to find a wanted man.

Ashley Road was closed for around two hours from 7.30am as police marksmen pointed their guns towards an upper storey window.

Officers on the ground used a battering ram to enter the building but left empty handed.

The man wanted on recall to prison was later named as 29-year-old Harvey Jackson.

He is described as as black, about 6ft 2ins tall, of stocky build with black dreadlocked hair.

Jackson was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer during a previous arrest attempt and released on licence in January.

Anyone with information about Jackson’s whereabouts is asked to contact the police immediately by calling 999, quoting reference 5217146222. Police warn that he should not be approached.

Alternatively contact Crimestoppers with information on 0800 555 111.

Speaking to the Bristol Post on Tuesday, an associate of Jackson said that he was preparing to hand himself in to the police.

“He said what happened this morning was excessive, there was no need for all those officers and that he would give himself up,” the associate said.

He added: “He said that if the police continue to go around kicking any more doors in, then they will be wasting their time because he will hand himself in.

“He said he knew the police were looking for him and told them he’d go to the police station, but the armed operation has obviously scared him.

He is very worried that he would be shot by police and is now in hiding.”
