Arrest after passengers treat Bristol Airport plane as ‘nightclub’

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jun 4, 2018

Police based at Bristol Airport have slammed a group of rowdy passengers whose behaviour caused an Easyjet flight to be cancelled.

A 32-year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil in south Wales was arrested for a public order offence and released under investigation following the incident on board a plane that was due to fly to Prague but never left the runway.

Avon & Somerset Police at the airport tweeted: “Disappointing behaviour of a few who ruined a Friday flight from #BristolAirport, not just for their mates, but for the 140+ who’s flight was cancelled as a result of their follow-up actions. It’s an aircraft – not a nightclub.”

An Easyjet spokesperson said that the flight was cancelled “due to a group of passengers behaving disruptively on board which caused a delay”.

“Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour on board and always push for prosecution.”

It later transpired, however, that following the delay it was actually the bad weather that led to the flight’s cancellation.

Passengers were given the option of transferring their flight free of charge or receiving a refund, with hotel accommodation and meals also provided to those affected.
