Ashton Gate opens sports bar as warm place
Hot soup, rolls and hot drinks are being served at the sports bar at Ashton Gate Stadium on Wednesday.
While temperatures remain below freezing, the space is being opened to those needing daytime refuge.
It comes as Bristol’s severe weather emergency protocol has been activated, with stadium bosses thinking of ways in which they can help their south Bristol community.
is needed now More than ever
“As the bitter cold continues, we’re keen to offer our Sports Bar as a safe warm space on Wednesday for anyone who needs respite from the cold,” said a stadium spokesperson.
“Those living in isolation, struggling to pay their heating bills or suffering from homelessness are welcome to come and have a hot drink on us from 10am to 10pm.
“Working with Bristol City Council, leading homelessness charity St Mungo’s activated the city’s Severe Weather Emergency Protocol a few days ago and we’ve been trying to see how we could help.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer the Sports Bar as something of a refuge for the day and early evening.”
