Bristol Planetarium goes out of this world
The At-Bristol Planetarium is promising an out of this world experience when it reopens on Friday.
It will be the UK’s first digital planetarium which uses ‘active’ 3D technology and will take visitors on a journey around the universe.
is needed now More than ever
Planetarium shows are now projected in 4K resolution (UHD Ultra High Definition) from two projectors, and 7.1 surround sound.
The first 3D shows will be Summer Stargazing and Space Explorers where visitors will be able to travel through the universe and fly through rings of Saturn.
The new planetarium is also hooked up to the Bristol is Open network, which will transmit live data about the city and its environment which can be shown in real time using the dome’s data visualisation capabilities to display huge and complex sets of data.

At-Bristol chief executive Phil Winfield said: “The technology really is amazing… The planetarium upgrade is a great opportunity for growth for us; as the data visualisation element of the Bristol is Open project allows us to develop new relationships within the city and beyond, using the planetarium in an entirely new and innovative way.”
