Unique auction of maritime items at Underfall Yard

By Ella Mawson  Monday Feb 5, 2018

Abandoned, unloved and forgotten. But for no longer, as an eclectic selection of maritime items have now been collected from across Bristol’s publicly-owned waterways and are now for sale to the highest bidder.

From speedboats to rowing boats, pine timbers to steel pontoons, there is everything a seafarer could possibly need.

The items for sale are currently on display at Underfall Yard, as part of a unique auction that takes place every two years.

Lot 10: Driver 500. High-performance Speed Boat with Suzuki 80. 4 stroke outboard

All the items have come into the custody of the Bristol Harbour Master with a number of reasons why these items are now for sale.

Sometimes it’s because owners are in breach of their mooring agreement, have unpaid mooring fees or don’t have a valid Boat Safety Certificate.

Other times it’s because the condition of a vessel has deteriorated to the point where it’s dangerous or even because the owners have “gone off the map” and have failed to correspond with the Harbour Authority for a significant amount of time.

Lot 19: a white kayak

Lot 9: Danny Boy, a 52ft narrow boat
