Balloons rise from centre in fiesta preview

By Bristol24/7  Friday Jul 31, 2015

Early morning commuters were treated to a fleet of balloons spectacularly mirrored in the water of the harbourside during an ascent from the city centre.

About 20 balloons took off from Lloyds Amphitheatre from 6.30am on Friday ahead of the Tribute Bristol International Balloon Fiesta next weekend.

With crystal clear skies and a light wind, the balloons drifted slowly towards Ahston Court Estate, where preparations are already underway for the fiesta.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to visit the world-renowned event from August 6-9.

Balloons will become a common sight over Bristol in the lead up to and during the four-day event.

Mass ascents are planned at 6pm each day, but are weather dependent. Nightglows – nightime balloon inflations to music – will also take place every day at 9pm at Ashton Court.

It’s a beautiful morning.. Have a good Friday.. ????????????????

This year’s fiesta will see the maiden passenger flights for the Bristol-developed solar balloon.

Made at Cameron Balloons in Bedminster, the balloon soaks up the heat through dark material which heats the air inside.

In total over 130 hot air balloons take off from Ashton Court Estate at dawn and dusk during the fiesta.

Aside from the displays, the free event also offers fairground rides,  food stalls and music stages.
