BBC drama Three Girls stars east Bristol landmarks

By Rebecca Hodson  Monday May 15, 2017

Bristol will appear on our screens again, as the backdrop for the BBCs new, hard-hitting drama, Three Girls.

The three-part series focuses on the victims of the 2012 grooming and sex trafficking case in Rochdale, but with production based in The Bottle Yard Studios, the largest dedicated TV and film facilities in the West of England, Bristol was chosen to be the backdrop.

Eastville Park, Easton, and Bedminster all feature prominently in the series, along with other, harder-to-spot Bristol locations.

With the same production team as the BBC’s award winning drama Five Daughters, including director Philippa Lowthorpe (Call The Midwife, Jamaica Inn), the story has been told with real sensitivity.

Natalie Moore, from the Bristol Film Office said: “It’s important with a shoot of this kind that filmmakers not only receive logistical support, but are also enabled in every way possible to demonstrate their consideration for those residing in areas where filming is taking place, who may be affected by such challenging subject matter.”

Bristol’s popularity as a backdrop to major TV series’ continues to grow, with Broadchurch, Sherlock and other high profile shows recently choosing Bristol as their main filming location.

The three part drama begins Tuesday May 16, 2017, on BBC One at 9pm.
