Becky Watts trial set to begin

The trial into the murder of St George teenager Becky Watts is set to begin at Bristol Crown Court.

A jury are due to be sworn in on Tuesday, while legal arguments mean the trial is expected to open on Wednesday morning.

Becky, 16, went missing from her home in Crown Hill on February 20, sparking a major police search which drew the attention of the nation.

The search took police to Cotton Mill Lane in Barton Hill before ending at a property around the corner in Barton Court, where Becky’s body parts were discovered on March 2.

Becky’s step-brother Nathan Matthews, 28, of Hazelbury Drive, Warmley, and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare, 21, of Cotton Mill Lane, were charged with murder, perverting the course of justice, false imprisonment and preventing a lawful burial.

They will stand trial alongside Donovan Demetrius, 29, of March Lane, Redfield and James Ireland, 23, of Richmond Villas, Avonmouth, who are charged with assisting an offender.
