Behind the scenes at the House of Commons
Bristol North West MP Charlotte Leslie has said taking part in an unprecedented new documentary which looks behind the scenes at the House of Commons “is a bit of a gamble”.
The MP is featured in the four-part documentary by Michael Cockerell Inside the Commons, which starts tonight on BBC2.
In a blog Leslie said: “My perhaps unwise enthusiasm to document the Parliament that I was experiencing (I will tell you if it was unwise when the series is over…)propelled me into this series.”
is needed now More than ever
The documentary follows her as she prepares for Prime Ministers Questions and trying to navigate around the corridors of power.
She added: “Taking part in this documentary, my enthusiasm for opening everything up to the public was put to the test. There was a large amount of trust involved. It is very easy for an editor to misrepresent, make ridiculous, and present as dodgy the most mundane of actions by an MP.
“Opening oneself up to all this, for broadcast, just a few months before the General Election in a marginal seat, is a bit of a gamble, to say the least. Whether or not this gamble paid off will remain to be seen.”
