EXCLUSIVE: Bernie Sanders to speak at Bristol Festival of Ideas

By Ellie Pipe  Thursday Apr 20, 2017

Bernie Sanders will bring his unique brand of revolution to Bristol this summer as part of the city’s Festival of Ideas.

The politician and activist took the world by storm with his extraordinary campaign for the Democratic primary elections that saw more than 13 million people turn out to vote for him to become the party’s presidential candidate.

With no money and no political organisation behind him, Sanders is credited with changing the global discussion around American politics.

Now serving his second term in the US Senate after winning re-election with 71 per cent of the vote, Sanders also has a New York Times bestseller, Our Revolution: A future to believe in, under his belt and will share the experiences, ideas and strategies that shaped his campaign.

Drawing on decades of experience as an activist and public servant, the veteran speaker will outline his ideas for continuing this revolution, arguing for a progressive economic, environmental, racial and social justice agenda that creates jobs, raises wages and protects the planet.

Bristol Festival of Ideas runs more than 150 events throughout the year and seeks to promote debate and discussion about key issues of our time. This event is being held with support from UWE.

Sanders will speak from 11am to midday on June 3, and although he is unable to stay for a book signing, there will be chance for people to purchase a signed paperback copy of Our Revolution at the time of booking at the special price of £8 (£9.99 RRP). There will be a limited number of signed copies available to buy on the day for £9.99.

Booking opens at 10am on Thursday, April 20. Tickets will be available online from www.stgeorgesbristol.co.uk, in person from the St George’s box office or by phone on 0845 4024 001.
