Bid to level Bristol’s career playing field
An illustrator and journalist who won a ‘once in a lifetime’ apprenticeship opportunity is hoping to inspire more people from disadvantaged areas to reach their career goals.
Jasmine Thompson will share her experiences at an ‘Ask About Me’ networking evening that aims to bridge the gap between inequality and achievement in Bristol by helping potential employees connect with the city’s key industry figures.
Social enterprise group Babbasa is hosting the event at Circomedia in St Paul’s on Thursday, April 27, as part of its bid to provide opportunities and support people from diverse communities in achieving their ambitions.
is needed now More than ever
Thompson was the first to clinch the title of Bristol SXSW Apprentice in a competition launched by Babbasa and Bristol Media.
She went on to attend the international creative and tech convention in Austin, Texas, and said the experience enabled her to meet with professionals in her field and opened up opportunities that are helping her to build a career in Bristol.
Babbasa’s Ask About Me event is a platform for businesses and professionals from all sectors to attend, network and invest in young people from different communities across the city.
The group believes that inequality is currently rife in Bristol, but that in giving young people the chance to connect with opportunities from a variety of sectors, it truly becomes a city for everyone.
Babbasa provides opportunities, through mentoring schemes, training, and events such as this.
Tickets for this year’s Ask About Me at Circomedia, Portland Square, are now available for interested professionals and businesses at £20. Entry is free for any young person aged 16-25 thanks to event sponsors, Icon Films.
