Bid to bring Bristol rugby player’s body home

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Feb 25, 2016

Friends of a Bristol rugby player who died in Budapest are calling for funds to help bring his body home.

Jeff Dylan, 31, who lived in Totterdown and played for Broad Plain Rugby Club, was found dead in the Hungarian capital last Friday where he had traveled with a group of friends.

Dylan, known as Gizmo, traveled without insurance which would have covered repatriation. His rugby teammates in Bristol are now urging people to help his Swansea family by donating towards the costs through a crowd funding page.

Friend and fellow Rugby player Paul Sheehan, 35, from Bedminster, said the team and Jeff’s family were in shock.

“Everybody has been rocked by the news,” he said. “But we have got to raise the money. We are just trying every avenue to bring his body back home. We are waiting for the exact figures, but we are getting close.”

Jeff had recently finished training to become a neurologist and was gearing up for a career.

“It was a shock when we found out, because he worked so hard for his qualification,” Paul said. “He was the life and soul of any party. He would do anything for anyone. He was generous and always wanted to help people.

“I’ve spoken to his family in Swansea and they need all the help they can get.”

A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are providing support to the family of a British national who sadly died in Budapest on February 19.”
