Bishopston assault victim dies

A 41-year old man has died following an alleged assault outside a supermarket in Bishopston earlier this month.

Lee Willingham was being treated at Southmead Hospital for serious head injuries he received in connection with an incident which took place at the junction of Gloucester Road and Zetland Road, in the early hours of Saturday 10 October.

Avon and Somerset Police said the Major Crime Investigation Team is now investigating the circumstances of Lee’s death.

Officers arrested a 21-year-old man, who was previously arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, has now been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter who is currently in custody for interview.

A spokesperson said: “During the course of our investigation we’ve identified several people who were in the area of the incident between 1am and 2am on Saturday 10 October, who we’ve not yet spoken to.
