Black Lives Matter march taking place on Sunday
In solidarity with protests in the USA following the death of George Floyd, a march will take place in Bristol on Sunday, June 7.
Bristol Black Lives Matter Protest is being organised in conjunction with marches in London, Manchester and Glasgow in a unified response to systematic racism and police brutality.
The peaceful protest will begin at 1pm on College Green with speeches from prominent black Bristolians, with a march through the city commencing at 2pm.

The event will follow Covid-19 social distancing rules, and marchers are reminded to bring masks, gloves and to keep a two-metre distance from others.
Organised by young people, most of whom are students, they have been speaking with Bristol City Council to make the march as safe as possible and to get some of the city’s most prominent black figures at the event.

Liza Bilal, speaking on behalf of the organisers, stresses that this will be a black led event, saying: “Allyship from white and non-black people of colour is of course important, and is helpful in trying to organise this protest, however our aim is and always has been, to amplify black voices and stress the important of black lives.”
Black people have been involved in all parts of the event’s organisation, which will finish at Castle Park, where speakers will continue conversations until around 5pm.
