Body found in Avon Gorge believed to be missing man Thomas Sopel

Police say a body found in the Avon Gorge is believed to be Thomas Sopel, who has been missing for three days.

An urgent appeal was launched to locate the 26-year-old, who is thought to have left his home in Barrs Court, Longwell Green on Monday (November 14) but did not return.

He had not been seen since the previous day.

Officers searching the area for the missing 26-year-old found a body on Wednesday night

Officers have confirmed the body of a found in the Avon Gorge on Wednesday night is believed to be Thomas, although formal identification has not yet taken place.

In a statement, the force said: “Thomas’ family have been informed of this update and are being fully supported by our specially trained officers.”

Police received reports Thomas’ Vauxhall Astra was seen in Bedminster on Tuesday.
