Bristol baker wins Great British Bake Off 2021

By Ellie Pipe  Wednesday Nov 24, 2021

Giuseppe Dell’Anno has become the first Bristol baker to win the Great British Bake Off (GBBO) crown.

The engineer beat fellow finalists Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira to seize victory in what judges described as the closest finale yet for the Channel 4 series.

The popular Italian-born baker said he will be forever grateful for the support he received.

“You think you know what you’re getting yourself into when you sign up… it’s a physically, psychologically and emotionally draining experience,” said the 45-year-old, writing on social media after the series finale.

“But also exciting and exhilarating. And I could have never done it without the support of my wife, my fellow bakers and the constant support from the production team! Thank you all out there, for reaching out and showering me with love.”

Giuseppe lives in Bristol with his wife and their three young sons, and works at the National Composites Centre in Emersons Green and is also an industrial fellow at the University of Bristol.

He was inspired to bake by his father, a professional chef. The Bake Off star dedicated his win to his parents in the final episode of series 12, which aired on Tuesday night.
