Bristol businessman brings ‘laughter yoga’ to Britain’s Got Talent
A businessman from Hanham who appeared in front of million of people on Saturday evening on Britain’s Got Talent says that he did not expect to last long on stage but is thrilled to have been able to share his unusual side hustle with the nation.
Pete Cann is the managing director of The Chef Tree, a recruitment agency providing staff to kitchens across Bristol and the South West.
But in front of Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Simon Cowell, he swapped his chef whites for a red hat to become Pete Cann the Laughter Man, teaching laughter yoga to the judges and the live audience.
is needed now More than ever
Pete, 46, has been a laughter yoga teacher for four years since first being introduced to the concept at the Womad festival.
He was approached by Britain’s Got Talent researchers to audition and said that he enjoyed the experience despite all four judges pressing their buzzers.
“I had a fantastic day, it was amazing,” Pete told Bristol24/7 the day after his audition had been broadcast on ITV.
“I got onto the stage, went on, did my piece and got everyone laughing. All 1,500 people in the audience which was fantastic. It felt really good.
“But I think deep down, I knew that I was going to get buzzed if I’m honest because is it an act? I don’t know.
“But laughing is bloody good for us. It has so many positive effects when we laugh for no reason.
“That’s what I was aiming to get across on my piece. To show the nation how easy it is to laugh for no reason at all and why we need to laugh more.
“It was nice to bring laughter to that many people in one place and hopefully the ripple effect of being on telly has made people a bit curious into what laughter yoga is and why we should try it.”
