Bristol cabinet member Tom Renhard hoping to become Gloucester MP
Tom Renhard has made it onto Labour’s shortlist of politicians who want to stand in the Gloucester constituency at the next general election.
If he is selected by members to be the official Labour candidate, Bristol’s cabinet member for housing will have to overturn a majority of more than 10,000.
Renhard says that his priorities for Gloucester include investing in the NHS, building more council homes, addressing the cost of living crisis, and investing in the city’s workers and economy.

So far, the tomrenhard.co.uk website only has one person backing #teamtom: the mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, who himself hopes to become an MP for the soon-to-be-created new Bristol North East constituency.
“I’m backing Tom because he has what it takes to bring Gloucester home for Labour,” says Rees on Renhard’s website.
“He works hard, utilises strong campaigning skills and works in partnership to ensure we enable thriving communities.”

Both Renhard and Rees were recently empty-chaired at a community meeting following the Twinnell House fire.
Residents asked the pair to come to a meeting and face questions about why sprinklers hadn’t been installed yet – but they did not attend.
Renhard was previously the chair of community union Acorn’s board of directors but he was expelled from the organisation by its national executive after being branded a “traitor”.
The Horfield councillor is CEO of Independent Mental Health Network, and is also an influence & participation coach for National Mind and a guest lecturer at the University of Bristol’s School for Policy Studies.
