Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2022, day 11: Bridges for Communities
Bridges for Communities exists to connect people of all faiths and cultures from across the city together.
The charity, based on Beaufort Street in Easton, prides itself on uniting people to form friendships and a sense of understanding of one another.
This is particularly important for refugees and asylum seekers who are new to the city and know very few people, or no one at all.
is needed now More than ever

Bridges was founded in 2010 by Dan and Karen Green. The pair, who were living in the Middle East at the time, were looking for ways young people from the UK and young people from the Middle East could meet to build understanding and trust.
The charity has grown from this initiative and now regularly holds Peace Feasts for local refugee and asylum seekers and its team of staff and volunteers based on three key principles: food, stories and friendship.
There are a number of ways Bridges supports asylum seekers and refugees in Bristol. From big group walks to sewing classes and supporting refugee families with tasks like job applications, booking appointments and liaising with schools.
The charity is always on the lookout for volunteers, particularly for its b.friend and Walk with Me schemes. It also needs more task volunteers to dedicate their time to supporting refugee families.
You can find out all about its volunteering opportunities on its website, or you can email: holly.taylor@bridgesforcommunities.com
