Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2022, Day 12: Art Refuge UK

This Bristol charity utilises the power of art to boost the mental health and wellbeing of people who have been displaced due to conflict, persecution and poverty.

You can find Art Refuge UK on Upper York Street, but the organisation works across the UK and internationally too.

The small charity has a team of artists and art therapists who help to deliver art therapy to people who are in need of a sense of escaping reality through getting creative.

Art Refuge UK was founded in 2006 by Frances Fox.

The charity started out by setting up two creative spaces in official centres in Nepal and India, designed for children, young people and adults in transit from Tibet as a result of political persecution.

This provided people with a safe haven and an opportunity to express themselves and have their stories listened to.

Art Refuge UK has also carried out art-based programmes to support people in the Calais refugee camp in northern France.
