Bristol charity advent calendar 2023, day 15: One25
One25 has been supporting marginalised women in Bristol for 28 years to move from crisis to independence.
The charity has been striving towards creating a world in which all women feel safe, loved and to be able to thrive through its three essential services.
Women street sex-working in Bristol face stigma, hardship and violence. Last year, 74 per cent of the women One25 supported experienced increased poverty and charity bosses say they’ve seen reports of violence more than double since the pandemic.

One 25 believes every woman deserves care, not judgement.
The services its staff and volunteers provide include night outreach – facilitating practical support for sex workers – a health hub for access to healthcare professionals and caseworkers offering specialist one-to-one support for recovery.

In the last year, One25 supported 271 women. 93 per cent of these had experienced domestic and/or sexual violence, 85 per cent suffered with mental health issues, 73 per cent with addiction and 74 per cent in worsened poverty due to the cost-of-living crisis.
The charity’s Big Give Christmas Challenge this year raised £81,198 to support women facing crisis through outreach, health hub and casework services.
And its not too late to support the vital work.
Jenny Riley, One25 CEO, said: “The needs of the women were already incredibly challenging and complex, and the cost of living crisis has made their lives even harder. Our services are vital to these women who are so often shut out of society.”

Speaking about the difference One25 has made to her life, Alma, who has been supported by the charity, said: “I am so grateful you are here. Without this space I would feel so alone.”
