Bristol charity advent calendar 2023, Day 2: Frank Water
Frank Water works to bring safe water to people across the world.
The charity, now based on Gloucester Road, started as a small social enterprise, selling bottled spring water to cafes and restaurants and donating the profits to an NGO in India to fund water projects.
Since then, Frank Water has provided safe water, sanitation and good hygiene to 492,854 people in 711 communities in India, Nepal and Kenya.
is needed now More than ever
In the UK, the charity works to educate and empower people to understand the importance of safe water, as well as raising funds through its colourful refill bottles and flasks, water coolers, T Shirts and more.
The charity recently launched its match-funding Big Give Christmas Appeal, where people can donate to help them reach their target of £50,000 to help women establish themselves as climate action leaders. All of these donations will be doubled before midday on December 5.
Funds raised will enable women to lead in addressing water scarcity and building climate resilience within their communities.
Through practical training, the charity hopes it will be able to empower women to lead planning, decision-making, and governance of safe water and sanitation services, to ensure access, suitability, and resilience of water services for generations to come.
The appeal could support women like Sarita Devi from Barakoti Village of the Almora district of India. In her community, many women had previously been unable to do their work on time, their children were late for school and their husbands were late for work.

Frank Water’s Christmas Appeal hopes to raise £50,000 to help empower women in India to generate their own water and raise money for their communities
When Frank Water’s community awareness programme arrived, they empowered the community to plant grass around water sources to increase groundwater and help increase the water supply to the springs.
Speaking about the impact Frank Water has had on her community, Sarita said: “Previously it took us one to two hours to fill our water vessels for our needs, but now we can do the same in just ten minutes.
“Our daily tasks are much quicker, allowing us to have adequate time to carry out our domestic chores.
“Our children now attend school promptly, and our male counterparts go to work on time. We are now able to grow vegetables to sell in the local market and the number of households in the village is increasing.”
Frank Water’s Big Give Christmas Appeal ends on Tuesday, December 5 and donations can be made to Frank Water through their online appeal page.
